This website was born out of love—for heritage, for food, and for the timeless traditions that make Souq Al-Mubarakiya more than just a market.
I’ve always carried with me a deep connection to the Middle East. My travels across the region brought me many unforgettable moments, but it was in Kuwait, while walking the narrow alleys of the Mubarakiya and sitting down to eat freshly caught local fish, that I felt something different—I had found my second home. The warmth of the people, the familiar scents of spices, oud, and musk, and the simple joy of sharing food with friends gave me the feeling I had always sought: a true sense of belonging.
Souq Al-Mubarakiya is one of Kuwait’s oldest markets, with a history stretching back over 200 years. Long before oil transformed the country, this souq was the heart of trade and daily life. Merchants sold dates, textiles, perfumes, and pearls, while fishermen brought in their daily catch. Even today, despite the rapid modernization around it, the souq has preserved its authenticity—retaining the same traditional stalls, humble eateries, and vibrant spirit that generations before me experienced.
What makes Al-Mubarakiya so special to me is that it has resisted the tide of change. It isn’t polished or modernized to the point of losing its character. Instead, it proudly holds onto its heritage. Every corner whispers a story of Kuwait’s past, and every meal reminds me that tradition can be as alive and nourishing as the food itself.
This website is my way of celebrating Souq Al-Mubarakiya—not just as a destination, but as a living memory of culture, hospitality, and joy. For me, it will always remain a place where heart and soul meet, and where I feel at home.
